Tsuga

Western hemlock cultivar 'Ghidorah' 1 year old graft
Tsuga heterophylla ‘Ghidorah’

About Tsuga heterophylla ‘Ghidorah’: This rare Western hemlock broom specimen was discovered by Mike & Cheryl Davison in October 2017. It is named after the fictional character “King Ghidorah” because of the unusual appearance of it’s silhouette when viewed from below. Now that it has been successfully propagated, it is 1 of very few Tsuga heterophylla cultivars. Above is a 1 year old graft, photo taken November 1, 2021!

We were able to finally obtain one of Ghidorah’s appendages this fall, 2020! Our friends, Michael and Paulie Seidel, of Crowfoot Nursery, are trying to root some the scion cuttings that were harvested, and they were able to graft it successfully!

It looks like ‘Ghidorah’ will be soon spotted throughout the Pacific Northwest!

Abies

Abies amabilis ‘Buzz’ was the second Pacific silver fir broom discovered by the Davisons on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon! It was discovered about 15 to 20 minutes after the first Abies amabilis broom ‘To the Moon’. We thought it was appropriate to name the specimen after the second man to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, who set foot on the moon about 19 minutes later.

This Pacific fir broom specimen was discovered on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission landing on the moon! The broom is sky high and will be challenging to land some scions!

Picea

Guess where this interesting Norway spruce broom was discovered?!

Grafted scions {cuttings} from this Norway spruce tree mutation produced this beautiful low growing spreading prostrate cultivar!

Picea abies broom discovered at the Fisher Golf Course in Yakima WA!

The manager at the Fisher Golf Course kindly allowed us to tour the course and retrieve scions from this interesting specimen. Fortunately we were able to get some scions before a big storm blew over the mature tree. The Abies concolor parent tree of ‘Hoop Dee Doo’ was also lost during the storm.
